DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Jed Homer (LMU/ODSL)\n\nORIGINS Data Science Lab (OD
SL) is pleased to invite you to the Statistics Block Course 2026\, taking
place from 21st September to 2nd October 2026 at the Universitäts-Sternwa
rte München. This two-week programme is designed for PhD students in physi
cs who apply statistical methods in their research. Interested MSc student
s from LMU and TUM are also very welcome.\n\nThe course will be split into
two thematic blocks:\n\n\nBlock 1: Probabilistic Reasoning – An introdu
ction to the fundamental concepts of Bayesian statistics\, covering probab
ility theory\, parameter estimation\, model comparison\, and practical app
lications.\n\n\nBlock 2: Statistical Inference – An introduction to the
key methods of Frequentist statistics\, including hypothesis testing\, con
fidence intervals\, and advanced inference techniques.\n\n\nFor MSc studen
ts it is possible to take this course for credit\, where there will be a w
ritten exam two weeks after the end of the course.\n\nhttps://indico.ph.tu
