Samples of galaxies have already been used in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the two degree field survey (2dF) to calculate the power spectrum of the baryonic-, and thus indirectly, the dark matter in the universe. However, being at low redshift, non-linear effects are severely limiting the value of the data by mixing mode information.
Lyman-Alpha Emitters (LAEs), being at high redshift, can be used to calculate power spectra with much less distorting effects. The HETDEX-Survey is spectroscopically measuring ~1mio LAEs in an 420 square degree area at a redshift ~2-4 to constrain cosmological parameters using both the geometry
information of the universe and the growth rate of structure.
HETDEX will directly measure the dark energy component of the universe, investigate the time evolution of the equation of state of dark energy, and set considerable constraints on early dark energy models.
