Description
Abstract:
As a result of strong gravity the central density of neutron stars exceeds that of ordinary nuclear matter by a considerable factor. Various methods have been employed to constrain the equation of state at such super-nuclear densities by neutron star observations. The observables used in these investigations include the mass M, radius R, gravity (M/R), moment of inertia, maximum rotational frequency, etc. In the talk I will present a critical review of the methods used. The most reliable investigations favour clearly a stiff equation of state.
