"Charm CP Violation and the electric dipole moment of the neutron"

The recent hints to sizable CP violation in the decay of charmed mesons are discussed in a model independent way. Assuming that the observed effect is due to physics beyond the standard model (SM), we study the impact of this new CP violation on the electric dipole moment of the neutron (EDM). Discussing the EDM of the neutron we identify a new contribution, which is even present in the SM and which could be even the leading contribution. We give a new estimate of the neutron EDM in the SM and show that the impact on the neutron EDM from the new charm CP violation are still well compatible with the current experimental limits.
