Description

PAHs are thought to play a very important role on the hesting of the gas in planet-forming discs, yet they are rarely observed in discs around young solar type stars. Are PAHs destroyed by X-rays in the atmospheres of discs? We plan to use the Twinkle Space Mission (Launch 2022) to confirm once and for all the presence of PAHs in disc atmospheres, by targeting the 3.3micron feature, whose detection is otherwise very challenging from Earth.
