Description
Lecture by Nick Evans (University of Southhampton) from the series "Münchner Physik Kolloquium". New relationships have emerged in recent years between gauge theories such as Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), describing the strong nuclear force, and string theorie. In this talk I will introduce the "holographic" link between these theories. Then I will describe the stringy understanding of a number of QCD phenomena including the origin of the proton's mass and the physics of pions.
