ORIGINS Data Science Lab (ODSL) is pleased to invite you to the Statistics Block Course 2026, taking place from 21st September to 2nd October 2026 at the A348 Theresienstr. 37.
This two-week programme is designed for PhD students in physics who apply statistical methods in their research.
Interested MSc students from LMU and TUM are also very welcome.

The course will be split into two thematic blocks:
-
Block 1: Probabilistic Reasoning – An introduction to the fundamental concepts of Bayesian statistics, covering probability theory, parameter estimation, model comparison, and practical applications.
-
Block 2: Statistical Inference – An introduction to the key methods of Frequentist statistics, including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and advanced inference techniques.
For MSc students it is possible to take this course for credit (6 ECTS credit). There will be a written exam two weeks after the end of the course. Please fill out the survey at the bottom of this page with your matriculation details.
