This talk will present the recent measurement of 136Xe double-beta decay by KamLAND-Zen. Results for the two-neutrino and neutrinoless modes as well as limits on Majoron emission branches will be presented . Special attention will be paid to the characterization of an unexpected background peak just above the Q-value of the decay, and prospects for its mitigation. Future options for more sensitive searches will also be discussed.
