Description
The world-wide unique international research "Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research" FAIR aims at providing stable and exotic nuclides as well as anti-protons, in a wide intensity and energy range with highest beam quality, for a worldwide leading science program. For this purpose a unique ion acceleration facility is under construction, based on a variety of innovative systems and focussing on a sophisticated and cost-efficient accelerator system, able to provide beams in parallel for different research communities to allow for a high-level research program. The challenges touch many areas of accelerator physics and require development work, starting from the ion sources up to the targets and experiments.
