I will review ab-initio lattice QCD simulations of the charmonium(like) states and open charm mesons. I will focus on the near-threshold states X(3872) and Ds0*(2317), searches for exotic Zc+(39000) and X(4140), as well as the broad charmed resonances. These channels were treated rigorously within lattice QCD for the first time during the past year. Highly excited spectra will also be presented.
