Description
Prof. Jerzy Jastrzębski and Dr. Agnieszka Trzcińska Heavy Ion Laboratory, University of Warsaw “NUCLEAR PERIPHERY STUDY USING ANTIPROTONS” The collaboration of the University of Warsaw and the Technical University of Munich in the domain of the antiproton interactions with atomic nuclei started in 1990 and lasted till 2007. There were two subjects of interest: the energy transfer or “heating “ of nuclei by stopped and energetic antiprotons and studies of the composition of the nuclear periphery. The second of the subjects mentioned above will be presented in details during this lecture. Two quite different methods were applied. Using the so called radiochemical methods the radioactive nuclei resulting from the antiproton-nucleus interaction were investigated and the ratios of proton to neutron density at the nuclear periphery were deduced. In measurements of the antiprotonic X-rays lines width and shift the difference of neutron and proton peripheral distributions were determined.
