Special Universe Talk: The Belle II experiment at the verge of first collisions: Hot topics in the physics analysis program

Abstract: In 2018 the intensity frontier SuperKEKB e+e- collider, located at the KEK laboratory in Tsukuba, will commence its first collision run to commission the facility.
The Belle II detector, located at the SuperKEKB interaction point, will primarily be used to probe flavour changing processes of beauty quarks, charm quarks and τ leptons produced in e+e- collisions at SuperKEKB to solve some of the most outstanding puzzles in particle physics, such as the cosmological matter-antimatter asymmetry, and the striking mass and coupling hierarchy of elementary particles. New interactions and yet unseen particles must exist to explain these phenomena. In fact we may already be seeing the effects of these new particles across a series of anomalies in recent B-physics results.
In this seminar, Phillip shall discuss the physics analysis program at Belle II, how we will address the current B-anomalies as well as the prospects of searches for dark sectors in the 2018 commissioning run.
