The exploration of the matter created in heavy-ion collision at high energies, in particular the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma, is the key aspect of the physics program of the ALICE experiment at the LHC. For this purpose, photons and dielectron pairs are particularly well-suited observables, because they penetrate the hot and dense system unaffected and carry information about its properties into the final state.
This provides access to the early system temperature and partonic collectivity, and allows to study the nature of the chiral phase transition.
In this presentation, the status of dielectron measurements with ALICE as well as future perspectives after the ongoing detector upgrades for LHC Run 3 will be discussed.
