Survey

Course evaluation (Practical Inference for Researchers in the Physical Sciences)

Following your participation in the first ODSL Block courses, we would love to hear your thoughts on the experience. As such, we have put together this short survey that should take no more than a few minutes of your time. Your feedback is anonymous and will greatly help us to improve the classes we will offer in the future. Thanks in advance!
Participant information

A few details to help us understand your background as a participant.

Course organisation

Your feedback on the organisational aspects of the course.

The courses were each delivered over a period of only 3 days, with a 2 week period in which to complete the report.

ie. ECTS points/certificate.

The filmed material was made available for offline viewing

We thought this would make interaction and discussion easier.

Sessions were 2h in the morning and 2h in the afternoon, with a 2h break in between.

Please elaborate on your answers in this section, if you have any comments.

The blocks used jupyter notebooks to combined and integrate lecture, learning and tutorial exercises, instead of e.g., a blackboard or slides, or free-form programming.

Do you have any comments for improvement?

Course content: Monte Carlo inference methods (block 1)

Your thoughts on the course material presented in the lectures and tutorials for the first block course: Monte Carlo inference methods.

Lecturer: Johannes Buchner

Evaluate first the content of the course and lectures. (tutorial breakouts come later)

Was it easy to hear the speaker, read the presentation and follow the material?

Could you stay awake?

The listed prerequisites were: familiarity with basic statistics and Python programming.

Do you have anything else that you would like to say regarding the lectures and course content?

Tutorials (breakout rooms)

How about the tutorials? Did the format work well? How could we promote interaction and discussion, even in the virtual format?

Course content: Bayesian workflow (block 2)

Your thoughts on the course material presented in the lectures and tutorials for the second block course: Bayesian workflow.

Lecturer: Francesca Capel

What next?

Please try to keep your suggestions limited to relevant data science topics.

Hopefully, it won't always be virtual....!
