Title: Looking Beyond the Standard Model with Coherent Elastic Neutrino Nucleus Scattering: A Likelihood Based Approach

Abstract: Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CE$\nu$NS) occurs when neutrinos scatter off nuclei with a momentum transfer less than inverse the nuclear radius. The COHERENT experiment observed it for the first time in 2018, 43 years after their prediction. The total number of events observed agree with the Standard Model (SM) within 1$\sigma$. However, the full data from two different detectors at the COHERENT experiment binned in nuclear recoil energies, neutrino arrival time and pulse shape discriminator information in a likelihood maximisation test reveal another story. We use poisson likelihoods for the full data, comparing it to a representative theory of beyond SM (BSM) physics, incorporating all involved uncertainties and backgrounds. The results show that the initial data from the CsI detector prefer the presence of BSM physics over the SM prediction at nearly 2$\sigma$ while the combined Ar and CsI data still has a preference for BSM physics at approximately 1.3$\sigma$. The details of the statistical analysis behind these results will be discussed in this presentation, including the structure of the likelihood functions, the methods of implementing the background and uncertainty information from the experiment and theory, and getting to the exclusions on the model parameter space from the likelihood distributions.

As usual, the format will be a short presentation followed by plenty of discussion.
