ORIGINS Guest Dr. Jiamin Hou, University of Florida, hosted by Dr. Ariel Sanchez, will lecture on "Exploring the Universe with large-scale structure: from observations to fundamental physics”
"Large-scale structures provide us with invaluable insights into the cosmic expansion history, the growth of large-scale structures, and the primordial Universe. In this lecture, we will briefly overview current and future galaxy redshift surveys. To efficiently extract information from the vast amount of data provided by galaxy surveys, summary statistics are widely used. Higher-order statistics, in particular, encode information due to the nonlinear gravitational evolution and provide unique windows into the early Universe. We will discuss the recently-developed N-point correlation function algorithms and go through interesting examples to show how to use these tools to probe fundamental physics.”
