The identification of the flavour of hadronic jets is critical for collider physics phenomenology. It allows to identify specific scattering signatures, and at the same time suppress the contribution from background processes. In this talk I will discuss recent theory progress on the definition of a flavoured jet, and discuss some implications of this for LHC physics studies (both from a theory and experimental view point). As an example, I will consider the process of Z boson production in association with a charm jet at forward rapidities, which has been suggested as a way to probe the charm content of the proton.
