Of course! Inspiring stories about becoming a scientist 20m

      Abstract:
As it is the case for many research groups in STEM fields worldwide, the collaborative research center "Waves to Weather" (W2W) lacks a balanced representation of genders at all career stages, and in particular at the professor level. In order to address this issue, the management team of W2W produced two comic books featuring illustrated interviews of inspiring female and male role models in different STEM fields, in different countries and at different career stages. This project, as well as the response it has triggered so far, and the many efforts of W2W to address gender gap and equal opportunities will be presented.

What inspired me to (try to) become a leader 40m

      Abstract:
As with most occupational activities, stereotypes are all around our minds when we think about what a successful astrophysicist is and what a leader looks like. Although clearly well known astrophysicists do follow some of the stereotypical treats, my experience is that success means (deeply means) something very different at the individual level and leadership even more. I can/could be considered a leader and/or successful at different points of my career and I want to offer my very biased opinion of when those external perceptions did not match my own. I would also like to talk about what I have learned through the years on what leadership means to me, who and what inspires me, and how knowing yourself and the "contour conditions" can help in career choices (or at least how it helped me).

      Speaker: Prof. Amelia Bayo (ESO)
