An accurate measurement of the Hubble constant, H0, is critical for the determination of all other cosmological parameters. The most recent determinations have revealed a >4σ discrepancy between the local value of H0, based on the distance ladder approach with Cepheid stars and type Ia supernovae, and the determination from the cosmic microwave background. If this holds up, then Lambda-CDM is not the complete model of the Universe. Any independent effort to better constrain this parameter constitutes an invaluable contribution to our understanding of the expansion history of the Universe.

This hybrid in-person/virtual workshop will bring together people working on determinations of H0 to address the following topics:

  • General overview of the H0 tension problem
  • H0 from CMB measurements (WMAP, Planck)
  • Early Dark Energy as a possible solution to the H0 tension problem
  • H0 from direct distances to core-collapse supernovae (adH0cc project)
  • H0 from lensing (HOLISMOKES project)
  • Blue supergiants and Cepheids as distance indicators
  • The Cepheid period-luminosity relation and its calibration
  • The Tip of the Red Giant Branch as a distance indicator
  • The inverse distance ladder
  • Megamasers
  • Standard sirens

There will be two seminar-like presentations per day (typically during the morning) with plenty of time for discussion. All presentations will be streamed live (https://tum-conf.zoom.us/j/61103186344 ; Passcode: 024540) to allow a large number of virtual participants. In-person participation is also possible but is strictly limited to the maximum capacity of the seminar room in accordance with local health regulations (updated on a regular basis).

Registration is free but required for both in-person and virtual participants.
