Target Ion Source Systems for Radioactive Ion Beams: perspectives

Not scheduled
20m

Description

Radioactive Ion Beam production using the Isotope Separation On-Line (ISOL) Method allows the exploration of the nuclear matter by creating exotic nuclei far from the valley of stability. To improve the performances of the method beyond the present limits, the variety of the primary beams and targets combinations and thus the diversity of the ISOL facilities must be reinforced, as well as the knowledge related to the physical processes involved in the production systems. Collaboration between the different ISOL facilities is essential to build common data bases, which are key points for the design of all ISOL systems. These information are required by the optimization of the target ion source systems, and will help the radioactive ion beams to be more intense by increasing the efficiencies of the production systems, while limiting the intensity of the drivers. More exotic regions of the nuclide chart should so become accessible.
