Description
The AB-BNCT project (Accelerator Based Boron Neutron Capture Therapy) aims at the realization of an intense accelerator-based source of thermal neutrons, suitable for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). Within this framework, the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) is involved in several studies covering the accelerator and the moderator, also called Beam Shaping Assembly, that will generate the suitable neutron spectra. In this paper the various initiatives are illustrated and discussed, with particular focus on the prototype neutron source built at LNL, the microdosimetric characterizations and the future perspectives for the final facility.
