Description
The study of the thermodynamics of strong-interaction matter is of fundamental importance for our understanding of the properties of nuclear matter as it is described by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Lattice QCD has long been contributing as a first-principles approach to answer nonperturbative questions on the QCD phase diagram at vanishing and small baryon chemical potential and the behaviour of hadrons, quarks, and gluons under extreme conditions. Here we discuss several directions for the future and emphasise the importance of maintaining contact with analytic and effective approaches, with phenomenology and experiment, and with large-scale computing efforts in the international community. New directions, such as machine learning and quantum computing, should be considered.
