Description

In this contribution the present status and perspectives for study of giant resonances and pygmy states by the gamma decay are described. This topic concerns following issues: link between deformation of compound nucleus and residues; Jacobi shapes; pygmy states excited in compound nucleus and at ground state; and gamma decay of isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance excited at ground state. The gamma decay measurement of isovector giant dipole resonance will be used to answer the question how the nuclear deformation changes in the decay process and for the search of the nuclear shape evolution as a function of spin. In case of isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance, the gamma decay, which is very rare and not well known process, is very interesting experimentally. The gamma decay of pygmy dipole resonance states excited in hot compound nuclei as well as built on ground states can deliver important information relevant for astrophysical processes.
The use of modern, newly built very efficient detectors, in particular for high-energy gamma rays measurement, i.e. PARIS array, is of key importance for all of the above-mentioned experimental research.
