Description
The HISPEC-DESPEC collaboration proposes to investigate the nuclear structures of exotic
nuclei in all regions of the nuclide chart, with the aim of providing insight in the evolution of the
shell structure and exotic nuclear shapes in uncharted territory. HISPEC-DESPEC (H/D) collaboration
key scientific goals are achieved exploiting the uniqueness of GSI-FAIR radioactive beams
produced by either relativistic fragmentation or fission, using both in-beam techniques (HISPEC)
and with stopped ions (DESPEC)
With this LOI the H/D collaboration describes new experimental approaches to further improve,
from a point of view of the detectors, the readout, data handling and analysis techniques, the
unprecedented γ efficiency and resolution achieved using AGATA and DEGAS set-ups and their
specifically developed ancillary detectors.
