Abstract:
As with most occupational activities, stereotypes are all around our minds when we think about what a successful astrophysicist is and what a leader looks like. Although clearly well known astrophysicists do follow some of the stereotypical treats, my experience is that success means (deeply means) something very different at the individual level and leadership even more. I can/could be considered a leader and/or successful at different points of my career and I want to offer my very biased opinion of when those external perceptions did not match my own. I would also like to talk about what I have learned through the years on what leadership means to me, who and what inspires me, and how knowing yourself and the "contour conditions" can help in career choices (or at least how it helped me).
